Photos from Kylene and Sean’s summer wedding in Lawrence, Kansas at Chrisman Manor by Kansas City wedding photographer Jerry Wang Photography.
Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.
Who – Yvonne Etzel – Kylene’s sister in law worked with Sean at United Way as a volunteer and kept saying that I needed to meet Kylene because we were both athletic. After Sean and his co-workers did a little bit of Facebook stalking the two went on a blind date.
What- After a phone call Sean took Kylene out to dinner where they had a pretty good first date, but they were not sure if it was serious. The date ended awkwardly when Sean walked Kylene up to her apartment and Kylene’s neighbor came out to ask them a strange question. She asked, “Did you have a donut on your door step… oh you didn’t. Darn, I was hoping there was something going on in the apartment complex because this stalker guy at work today told me it was national donut day and I came home to a donut on my doorstep.” It was a characteristically weird way for the weird couples date to end.
They were each curious enough though to go on a second date, two days later to South park on a perfect day in Lawrence. They spent an absurd amount of time getting to know all about each other on this day and they knew there was something special.
When did you know he / she was the one? Was there something he / she did?
Kylene decided Sean was the total package on the second date, because he was really genuine and easy to talk to. These qualities were not so easy to come by and she just had ‘that feeling’ he was something special : )
Sean knew when things got difficult for Kylene and his instinct was not to run, but to help. He knew then and there that he wanted to help her through thick and thin. Part of his desire to help her was due to the fact that she is such a selfless, caring, and thoughtful person that I was excited for a chance to help her in her struggles.
What is the most memorable date you’ve ever had?
The getaway weekend in Eureka Springs full of adventures. We ziplined, canoed, hiked, visited a cave and a haunted hotel, saw the sites, ate the food, and stayed in a cabin in the treetops.
Tell us about the proposal (did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Nervous, excited, freaking out?)
Kylene’s version – It was a complete surprise and I was set up. It happened at my work place and my coworkers were in on it. I had been stressed all day thinking that I had a big meeting with my boss, but little did I know that I was going to be a fiancé. I never saw it coming until the door opened and Sean was standing behind it. I did not realize that family was even there until after the proposal happened.
Sean’s Version – I had been planning it for months and I was going to propose at the top of a mountain in Keystone, CO… but Kylene was sick and unable to come on the trip. Sean had told everyone and was scared someone was going to ruin the surprise for Kylene so he quickly arranged to surprise her at work and invited their families to come for it. I was nervous as hell and she knew something was up at work because people were acting weird. When the door opened and I was standing there she did not want to come in. After I walked her in she was completely surprised and could not believe it was happening but said of course to the big question. She then proceeded to cry, celebrate, and asked a million questions about how I pulled it off.
Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.
Sean loves how thoughtful & genuine Kylene is with everyone and everything.
Kylene loves how patient Sean is with her. He always takes time to listen to me and understand my perspectives.
If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does
Sean likes to have very intellectual conversations in the morning when Kylene is not even coherent and Kylene wants to discuss important things with Sean late at night when he is mentally spent.
Also, Sean cannot stand country music, parades, shopping, and Christmas songs all of which make Kylene cannot live without.
Describe the theme or décor for your wedding.
The wedding is simple and chic with a touch of rustic. The colors are navy, pink, and peach, with gold accents. The flowers will be an eclectic mixture of varied types, with greens, and other textures. Vines similar to seeded eucalyptus will be used to adorn the tables and accent arrangements.
