Photos from Lauren and Nathan’s fall wedding in Lawrence Kansas at the Cider Gallery.
Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.
We met at Louise’s Downtown. I, Lauren, was out for a friend’s birthday. My friend, Emily, the birthday girl, knew a guy that was in Nathan’s group of guys at Louise’s. Nathan decided to sit by me and we hit it off talking, even though I only heard every other word because it was so loud in there. Come to find out Nathan has played tennis against one of my brothers a couple times, my brother never mentioned to him that he has a sister. We bet drinks on some pool games and the rest is history.
When did you know he / she was the one? Was there something he / she did?
We never had a specific moment. We had an unspoken feeling that we were right for each other. We were both in similar places in our life at the moment we met, and our lives seemed to mesh together quickly and perfectly like puzzle pieces.
What is the most memorable date you’ve ever had?
At the beginning of our relationship there was a meteor shower that was going to be over Lawrence and was scheduled to start at 3 or 4am. So we stayed up watching movies, most memorably The Art of Flight, which contains the song that I will be walking down the aisle, M83 Outro. We fell asleep, but luckily set an alarm. When the alarm went off, we groggily went outside to view this amazing meteor shower and it was completely overcast. By that point it did not really matter.
Tell us about the proposal (did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Nervous, excited, freaking out?)
Lauren: I did not see this coming! We had talked about our future and I knew marriage was in it, but I did not expect it at that moment. I had just been out of school for about 3 months, and had been working full time in my new job for about 1 month. I was so busy, distracted and stressed with trying to figure out how to balance life with my new full time job. Nathan was able to keep the proposal a secret from me for about a month. What is more surprising is that he was able to get my mom to keep it a secret from me for 2 weeks.
Nathan: I’m very poor at keeping surprises secret, my vault is always open. So planning and keeping all sorts of things secret for a month was a real chore. Having to shadily snag my phone every time it went off to make sure it wasn’t something proposal related. I was very paranoid for length of time leading up to it.
I told Lauren about our 2 year anniversary plans, anniversary photos at Bluejacket Crossing vineyard, and then dinner at Capital Grill in KC.
The whole idea was to get Lauren out to our favorite vineyard and have our 2 year anniversary photos taken by my friend Travis Moore (professional photographer, currently with Larken Photo…). This wasn’t suspicious in the least since we’re terrible at taking photos together. So I had Travis and his wife pick up Basil Leaf take out and set up a picnic that would be ready once I proposed.
The day of the proposal the heat index was absurd, like 110 degrees or some nonsense. So immediately Lauren doesn’t want to do pictures any longer and begins loathing it. I had to just push through and keep saying things like “it’ll all be worth it”. Turns out it was very worth it, with Lauren immediately saying yes. The funniest thing after that though was her asking if we’d still make it to Capital Grill. It was in all a very fun night with us ending our night at Louise’s for a private party with all our friends and family.
If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does
Nathan likes to find and buy cool shoes and boots. He probably has double the amount of shoes that I do. Over the years we have had to buy multiple shoe racks for around the house already, in order to accommodate all of his shoes.
Lauren like a true cat lady loves to take pictures and snaps of her and our two cats. Oddly enough this is the only time they look like all the other internet cats, poised and calm, because usually they are rambunctious and psycho kitties. I haven’t verified it yet but I’m pretty sure she’s using catnip deodorant.
Describe the theme or décor for your wedding.
Our décor is garden and everything green themed. I love the color green because it reminds me of being outdoors and in the wilderness. Everything for the décor is simple, which is how I try to keep things. Also, when we fell in love and picked the Cider Gallery as our venue, we knew we wouldn’t need much to decorate that beautiful space.
