P&L | Topeka Kansas Wedding | Agriculture Hall | Holy Name Catholic Church
Photos from Lindsay and Phil’s wedding in Topeka Kansas at the Holy Name Catholic Church and Agriculture Hall. Bridal party formals were taken at the Governor’s Mansion.
Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.
Lindsay and I met while both attending Washburn University. She was actually dating one of my friends at the time and we didn’t get along with each other that well at first. Probably because she was jealous because her boyfriend like spending more time with me than her. We didn’t start dating until after a few years of knowing each other.
When did you know he / she was the one? Was there something he / she did?
L) There wasn’t any single thing Philip did but if I had to choose, him moving down to El Paso, TX told me that we were in it for the long haul. Not just anyone would give up a life they established for several years and move to a place that isn’t on the top 500 list of vacation spots, is right next to the border, and a place that they have not frequented before.
P) It didn’t take long to know that Lindsay was the one once we had finally started dating. I had been in a few relationships and they were a lot of hard worker. With Lindsay it has never seemed like we have to work on our relationship, everything comes easy in this one. But once we made it through be gone for 2 years in Denver at grad school I knew we could make it through everything else.
Tell us about the proposal (did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Nervous, excited, freaking out?)
L) I had no idea the proposal was coming. I was on a flight home from Atlanta after a long 2 weeks away for work. When I got on my first flight I thought to myself, it would be cool if Philip proposed that night when I got home but quickly talked myself out of the possibility. When I called him to come and get me he was sounding nervous for no apparent reason other than it had been 2 weeks since we’d seen each other. After we got my bags he had parked (which he rarely did) and told me he had a gift for me. I turned around after loading bags in the car and it was the best surprise I’ve ever had!
P) Well, I actually had never been ringing shopping before. One day in November of 2011 I just decided to go check them out, found one I really like so I bought it.I didn’t actually propose until august of 2012. I was working on my 66 and 7 license beginning of 2012 and just wanted to make sure I stay focused on my studies before I popped the question. When the moment was finally right I was going to surprise her at the security checkpoint at the El Paso airport. I planned on being down on one knee as she came down the escalator. But the rarest thing happened, a flight got in 30 min early-hers. So she was already well passed security and at the luggage carousel. So I waited until we go to the car where I usually had some kind of corny gift waiting for her when she got back from long travels, and told her I had a gift for her. Got down on a knee and proposed.
Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.
L) I love Philip’s constant energy for life, friends, and family. He never shies away from spending time with the people in our lives and he is always game for adventure.
P) I love that she will put her interests aside to make me happy. She is a very unselfish woman.
Besides getting married – what’s the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?
L&P ) The thing we are most looking forward to on our wedding day is getting to have all of our family and friends in one place for a celebration.
What inspired your décor or theme?
L) I love bright colors so we decided to bring in as many as we could without it looking like a rainbow. Each of the girls got a color that meant something to them and I had the opportunity to blend them all! The brighter the better!
P) Well I like navy with charcoal suits. Always though it was a sharp combo. Now Lindsay on the other hand thinks a lot of color is so cool looking so she had to have all the girls with different colored shoes on. Not really any other theme, basic “try to fancy up an old reception hall.’
What’s one thing you wish you would have known earlier in regards to planning?
L) Have a short engagement. The less time you have to plan the less you second guess everything!
P) How much vendors and retail stores exploit the hell out of the day 😉 But we have attended over 30 weddings together so we are professionals in the matter.
