Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.
We first met in an introduction to computer class at Wichita State University. Our teacher was awful, and DJ used this as an opening conversation starter. After the first class he gave me his number “in case I needed any help with the homework”… He had a 2.1 GPA at the time.
When did you know he / she was the one? Was there something he / she did?
L) I knew I was in love with DJ after our first date. We went to the movies with another couple who was also on a first date. I was so nervous before he came to pick me up. We had barely talked before and he was so good looking! During the movie, DJ and I could not stop talking to each other. My friend and her date did not seem as entertained as we were. We laughed and talked the entire movie. Then, after the movie ended and we said goodbye to the other two, we went back to my apartment and kept talking for the next couple hours. DJ gave me a hug goodnight and left. I immediately felt crazy for the feelings I had already for him.
DJ) I knew Leslie was the one when I first started talking to her the first time I met her, there was a point when she was laughing and the sun light hit her blue eyes just right and I was hooked.
Tell us about the proposal (did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Nervous, excited, freaking out?)
DJ) I got all of our family in on the proposal. My mom and grandma took Leslie out to lunch and shopping on a Saturday while the rest of my family, grandparents, Dad, nephews, sisters, and even her Uncle and a couple of her friends got the house ready with balloons, cake, and flowers. My mom then brought her home and when she walked in the door, my nephews had signs asking her to marry me. They moved and I was on one knee waiting for her in my parent’s living room. It only took a few weeks of planning but I think I surprised her.
L) I knew that DJ and I were talking about getting engaged in the near future. However, I had no idea when he did ask! I actually was kicking myself in the butt a little bit because I just got the urge to cut my hair with bangs… the night before!! But, when he asked I could tell how nervous he was and it was very sweet all the effort he put into it.
Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.
DJ) There is no definitive answer here but imagine mixing, innocence, naïve, loving, caring, clumsy, unluckiness all into one and that’s the one thing I love most about her.
L) I love DJ’s attitude on life. He always finds the humor and opportunity in any situation. His laid back, love life for what it is personality is one thing I love most about him.

DJ) Leslie talks in her sleep, not like grunts and noises but an entire conversation with herself as she is sleeping ranging from a low whisper to a crowded room conversation.
L) DJ booty dances and dances in my face when he is in a good mood or happy about something.
Besides getting married – what’s the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?
DJ) Having all our family and friends there to hear me say sweet things about Leslie because I never am openly emotional.
L) I’m looking forward to seeing everyone from our families and friends have fun together in one place. … and seeing DJ in a tux 🙂
What inspired your décor or theme?
We are both from small towns in Iowa and Kansas. We love the country atmosphere and being outdoors.
What’s one thing you wish you would have known earlier in regards to planning?
The amount of time it takes to get every little thing figured out.
