Photos from Andy and Bethany’s summer wedding in Manhattan, Kansas at Seven Dolors Catholic Church and Prairiewood Retreat from Kansas City Wedding Photographer Jerry Wang Photography.
Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.
B:We met freshman year in Moore Hall at KState. We lived on the same floor.
When did you know he / she was the one? Was there something he / she did?
B: We were friends for 3 years before we started dating. The day before what would have been our first month anniversary of dating Andy broke his leg in a softball accident. I was in Alaska for the summer and he called me all medicated after his surgery just to make sure to tell me happy 1 month. It was during that phone call that I knew I wanted him to be the one I talked to on all of my anniversaries.
A: There was not one specific moment for me. I came to know over a period of time when things were just going great. I would think that if something were to go wrong then we will figure it out then, but nothing went wrong. It was great the whole time dating her and once I finished school it was time for more.
What is the most memorable date you’ve ever had?
B: Right after I got back from summer break Andy and I went on a date to the Manhattan Zoo. He was determined to take me, even though he was on crutches. It took us a little longer to get around the zoo, but I loved it.
A: For her 24th birthday I came up with this idea to get her 24 gifts for each of the 24 hours in the day. So at 1am I had a gift for her, then 2am, 3am, etc. All day she couldn’t wait for the next hour to strike so she could get the next gift. Some of the gifts were small such as a bag of candy, but she still lit up and got so excited each hour.
Tell us about the proposal (did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Nervous, excited, freaking out?)
B: I did not see the proposal coming. We had just moved to Kansas City and he took me out to a winery on the Plaza and then we walked around the plaza and ended up on the bridge over the waterway. He reaches in his shirt and pulls out a card. On the card it said “Happy 39 months. Over the past 39 months I have come to love you more and more, but it is not enough I want a lifetime.” Upon looking up he was down on his knee with the ring. I was completely surprised I don’t even remember if I said yes or not.
A: It is the same story as she wrote except there was a little more to it. We first walked out onto the bridge over the waterway. I was seconds away from proposing and pretty nervous when she turns to me and says she needs to use the restroom. I was torn. Do I ask her anyway or find her a restroom. I chose the latter and we found a Starbucks. Afterwards I had to convince her to follow me back to that same bridge where I then proceeded to propose.
Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.
B: I love how determined he is, with school, work, and in life. He is my best friend.
A: I love how we are so close and can share anything. She can give me just a small look and make my day.
If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does
B: Andy can wiggle his ears.
A: Bethany squeezes my ears.
Describe the theme or décor for your wedding.
B: Our wedding was laid back and in a barn. Our colors were navy, gold and white.
