Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.
Jason and Alex both attended Free State High School in Lawrence, Kansas. They had a few classes with each other, had different friends, and basically coexisted peacefully (though Alex did vote for Jason for homecoming king). Then, they both ended up at the University of Kansas. They were enrolled in the same English 101 course, where Alex developed a crush on Jason. And, not so subtely, she flirted. Yet, Jason remained oblivious. Eventually, after no luck, Alex put Jason in the friend-zone. Then, in the fall of their Junior year, Jason began to see Alex in a different light. So on one fatefull night at the Jayhawk Cafe, he bought her a drink. They danced, talked, drank, and he walked her home like a true gentleman. The rest is history….
When did you know he / she was the one? Was there something he / she did?
Deep down, he knew she was the one in senior year of highschool. She’s pretty sure that he’s making that up but we’ll go with that.
What is the most memorable date you’ve ever had?
We basically were just going to get ice-cream and then wander around Mass. St for a bit. Along the way, a few people stopped Jason to say “Hi.” Most were friends of his parents (that’s when I realized he was practically Towny-Royalty). Another person stopped us: it was a homeless man who told us we were a beautiful couple and were just perfect together. Also, a random car drove by, honked, and yelled “CUTE COUPLE!!!”
Tell us about the proposal (did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Nervous, excited, freaking out?)
The Plan
Jason was to tell Alex they were going out to dinner and drinks for her birthday. They would then go downstairs to presumably get in the car. A limo would be right outside and the Jason would get down on one knee to propose right there. Very smooth, very romantic
What Really Happened
Jason told Alex to hurry up and get ready because they were going out to dinner and drinks for her birthday. She got ready really fast (he did say to hurry). Jason recieved a call from “nobody” (it was the limo driver calling to say he’d be a couple minutes late). Jason panicked and tried to stall by pouring himself a drink and sitting on the couch. At this point Alex is rather confused and exasperated. After about 30 seconds, Jason got up (the thought of keeping it together long enough to make it down the elevator just terrified him) and got down on one knee, pulling the ring from his pocket, and forgot to actually ask, “Will you marry me?”. She said yes anyway.
Not so smooth, still romantic
Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.
Alex- I love that he loves absolutely everything about me. Even when I leave my shoes everywhere, even when I correct people’s grammar. And he loves me when I’m at my best and don’t even realize it.
Jason- That she lets me be myself.

Describe the theme or décor for your wedding.
Basically we used the location as the inspiration. The Eldridge Hotel is such a historical piece of Lawrence, we wanted to stay with that . The building is beautiful so we didn’t feel like we needed to decorate or change the space very much. Everything has a bit of a nod to the 20’s era, but we didn’t want it to be very literal. Since the wedding was in the fall, we wanted to everything to feel warm and lavish: golds, deep jewel tones, fall spices.
