Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.

N) We met at Mill Valley High School while I was in my second year of teaching and Cody was a student teacher during the spring semester of 2014. Cody waited to ask for my number until the very last day (the very last hour, minute). I was ready to go home and he was hanging out in my classroom. A student we both had in class came by and said, “Hey Mr. Janousek, do you have Miss Cox’s number?” Cody said no, and I said, “Well, do you want it?” So romantic! He texted me the next day and we’ve talked every day since.

C) The first time we ever met, I was meeting my cooperating teacher (Amy Welzenbach) for student teaching for the first time. This young teacher next door, Ms. Cox, came into the room to ask Mrs. Welzenbach a question in the middle of me meeting Amy. When I started student teaching a few months later, I remember being excited that she was going to be right next door.

When did you know he / she was the one? Was there something he / she did?

N) When Cody was accepted to graduate school in Colorado and we were deciding on whether or not it we would both be moving or just him, or neither of us. We basically knew that if we were moving in together in a different state and combining finances, that there was no turning back and we were taking a big plunge together. Moving away from family and “forging our own path” by ourselves made us feel more connected than ever.

C) I was working next door to Natasha when I was student teaching and one day I came by to her having The Strokes playing on her Pandora. I probably came next door to “ask a question” ;)… Our conversation continued after I made a comment about The Strokes being incredible, and each time her custom Pandora had a new song come on it made me stop and make a comment because of how similar our tastes in music were. Armed with his knowledge on how we had identical tastes in music, I was able to make up other reasons to come next door to start conversations.

What is the most memorable date you’ve ever had?

A hike we went on during the day on The Switzerland Trail. I was working from home and Cody had recently graduated so we had a lot of time to spend together. We knew we only had a limited amount of time left where we’d have the opportunity to hike in CO whenever we wanted to, so we left early in the morning and hiked for a few hours without seeing another soul. Then we had coffee and tea in a nearby town.

Tell us about the proposal (did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Nervous, excited, freaking out?)

I knew Cody had a date in mind to ask me and it only made sense that he would ask me to marry him on the same date that he asked for my number 3 years prior. We lived by a park with a lake and would walk there several times a week. We set out on a walk on that date like we typically did, and Cody knelt down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Afterwards we went to the brewery next to the park for a celebratory beer. It made for a pretty special Tuesday.

Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.

N) I love that he is the most open, raw, and sincere person I know. There’s a certain vulnerability in being 100% purely genuine all the time and I think that’s such a rare quality in a person.

C) It is hard to say just one thing. Natasha has a personality that is an incredible combination of someone who is insightful, adorable, passionate, and intelligent.

If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does.

N) There isn’t enough room on this page to list all the silly or quirky things that Cody does, but to name a few: he sings and dances when he makes dinner (in general he just likes to make a lot of noise in the house), he sometimes sleeps with his torso laying on his legs (a position that almost no non-gymnast can achieve), and he sometimes drives on the sidewalk in our neighborhood since the curb clearance is very low just to freak me out.

C) Natasha will leave the tiniest amount of salsa, ketchup, Triscuits or, you name it instead of just finishing off the rest. I used to stumble upon these with disappointment, but now they are little Tasha gifts to me almost like saying “Natasha was here.”
