Jessica and Ian’s fall wedding in Lawrence, Kansas at Arterra Event Gallery by Kansas City wedding photographer Jerry Wang Photography.
Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.
Ian and I worked together at Applebee’s starting in 2006. After working together for a few years, I asked him out in 2012, and the rest is history.
When did you know he / she was the one? Was there something he / she did?
Ian: While we were talking on one of our dates, it occurred to me how well we fit together.
Jessica: In 2013, I worked at a camp over the summer, and being apart from Ian was much harder than I thought it would be. But whenever I would come home on break, Ian would be waiting for me. By the end of the summer, I knew he was the only one I wanted to come home to.
What is the most memorable date you’ve ever had?
Jessica: On one of our very first dates we went kite flying, and it was perfect.
Ian: The first time she cooked for me – Jessica is an awesome cook. She made rib roast, and we had s’mores that we cooked in the grill for dessert
Tell us about the proposal (did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Nervous, excited, freaking out?)
I definitely knew it was coming – we had talked about marriage for a long time, but Ian still managed to trick me. He took me to Bluestem, where we had had a date before, and I was sure he was going to propose at the restaurant. When he didn’t, I felt a little silly, but when we got back into Lawrence, instead of driving home, he took me downtown. We walked for a little while and then went into the Japanese Garden. We sat down and talked for a few minutes about our relationship, and then he asked me to marry him. I had never been happier in my whole life before then. <3
Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.
Jessica: Ian is a very grounded person, which is good for someone like me, because I tend to have my head in the clouds.
Ian: She is selfless, and will always put others above herself.
If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does.
Jessica: He has this weird dance that he does when I’m having a bad day, and it never fails to cheer me up.
Ian: She gets SUPER excited when she’s watching sports, and somehow always manages to yell right in my ear, several times a game.
Describe the theme or décor for your wedding.
We wanted to keep things pretty simple. It was really important to us that everyone have a really good time, and we tried to not worry as much about the details.
