Photos from Piper and Dustin’s wedding in Lawrence, Kansas by Jerry Wang Photography – Kansas City based wedding photographers. Wedding ceremony at the picturesque South Park downtown, couple formals inside Allen Fieldhouse and on the campus of University of Kansas. The night ended with a beautiful reception at Abe and Jake’s Landing followed by an exit in a 1950 Lincoln Continental.
Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.
D) We met through Lawrence High School Marching Band. Although our first interactions were at the Lions Leap Dance in the Fall of 2006.
P) We met through Lawrence High School Marching Band. However, I had a crush on Dustin’s best friend and Dustin spent some time trying to convince me that I was “barking up the wrong tree”. Our first interactions were at the Lion’s Leap Dance in Fall 2006 and after that I thought Dustin was cute and we started talking on the phone every night for hours and one thing led to another.
When did you know he / she was the one? Was there something he / she did?
D) I think I knew she was the one before I was willing to admit it. I knew we had something special by spring 2007 but I probably came to the realization that she was the one in 2008.
P) Dustin and I agreed to take a short break from each other to explore other options and to figure out what we really wanted. This was while Dustin was still in Kansas and I was living in California. We agreed to three months no talking or seeing each other. I realized Dustin was the one when I couldn’t even make it a whole day without wanting to call him. He was and is the person that I want to call when I have something exciting to share or need someone to talk to. Nobody else could ever replace that.
What is the most memorable date you’ve ever had?
D) The most memorable date to me was the surprise vacation she took me on last fall to Bennett Springs and Branson MO.
P) Dustin has always spoiled me by taking me on special dates and trips so it’s so hard to choose just one.
Tell us about the proposal (did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Nervous, excited, freaking out?)
D) I was not surprised as I planned it. I asked Piper to take a photo with me then I asked a couple sitting on a bench to take pictures of the two of us (I secretly told them what was about to happen) I was nervous not because I was worried shed say no but because it was a big step.
P) I had a feeling the proposal was coming. At the time, we were celebrating our five year anniversary and we had been talking extensively about getting engaged. We had planned this trip to San Diego for our anniversary and I was pretty confident Dustin was going to propose. I was actually incredibly anxious but also very excited.
Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.
D) How un-judgmental she can be and love me for who I am.
P) I absolutely love how hard working Dustin is and how patient he is. He is much more patient than I could ever be and I admire that about him.
If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does
D) Piper has a silent laugh. If you get her laughing really hard the sound disappears.
P) Dustin falls asleep, no matter where he’s at, after about 10 at night. He’s fallen asleep in restaurants, at other people’s houses and of course at home he’ll fall asleep on the couch if he doesn’t get to bed soon enough. He’s such an old man! 😉
Describe the theme or décor for your wedding.
D) Elegant. That’s the only way I can describe it.
P) Very elegant. We’re incorporating a lot of lace and brooches to give our wedding a vintage feel but also incorporating some more modern aspects
