Title | Our Story
Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.
Sean: “We met online randomly back in 2012 and started just chit chatting. Once we found out that we both grew up in Olathe, everything seemed to be like fate. I finally made the leap to go up and see her that July and everything else is history.”
Krissy: He pretty much got it there! I had been talking to some friends in this chat that he was part of and I mentioned that I was maybe going to go to Kansas later that year to visit my old friends. He was like hey, I live there! And then we found out we both were from Olathe and immediately had that connection of childhood memories going to places like Black Bob park, the Great Mall, etc..
When did you know he / she was the one? Was there something he / she did?
Krissy: “I’m a very reserved person and it takes me a long time to open up to people to get close to them. That wasn’t the case with Sean. I looked at his face and immediately trusted him and felt like I could tell him anything. He has been one of the few people that has seen me for who I am from day one and that just really had significant value to me. As I started to learn more about him and get to know him over they ears it really just became very clear that he is who I want to spend my life with.”
Sean: “Right away, I didn’t really know if I understood it yet, but when I first saw her I knew it was something extremely special. I didn’t know what love was until I met her.”
What is the most memorable date you’ve ever had?
Krissy: When I came down to visit him for the first time in October 2012, Sean took us to see Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros at the Crossroads. He had shown me their song “Home” months before that and I would play it on repeat, so it was especially significant to see the artists live. It was also the first big concert I’d gone to in many many years and I forgot how much fun they were until I was at that show dancing with him. The crowd was awesome as well and I just really remember that time as one where I felt like I was deeply in love.”
Sean: “I don’t know if I can pinpoint everything to just one date, but I can say that when we took the trip from Lethbridge Alberta to Vancouver BC, driving through those mountains, it made this whole huge adventure come true. We were ending our long distance and this last great journey was beyond beautiful and I had my best friend to share it with.”
Tell us about the proposal (did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Nervous, excited, freaking out?)
Krissy: “I knew it was coming because that was my college grad week when he came up and we had family events almost every day of the week except for this one day – June 7 2015. I knew it was the only day we would really be alone together and he had long said that he would marry me after I got my degree, so I kind of put 2 and 2 together there, and started hoping that he would do it on that hike. I was also really excited for the barbecue sandwiches and coffee that we had packed for lunch. I of course worked up an appetite hiking up the mountain and when he finally wanted to stop for lunch I was like YES FINALLY MY SANDWICH. I kept asking him to get the sandwiches out of the backpack and he wasn’t really replying to me, so I got a little huffy and turned around to put out the blanket on the rocks so I had a place to sit down. Then, I heard him say my name and I turned around expecting the sandwich and he was down on his knee! In the water!! He asked me to marry him and I of course said yes. I was bashful and a little flustered, but very excited (and very hungry). I actually ended up forgetting completely about the coffee and sandwich until he reminded me…”
Sean: “I hiked her up a mountain to a waterfall. It was fairly obvious, I had asked for her ring size, told her parents, but I was still nervous. Once we got to the top, I was digging through our backpack and found the box. I got down on one knee in the freezing stream and proposed. She said yes without even thinking. Good thing, it would have been a long hike back down the mountain. ;)”
Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.
Krissy: “I know that he will always have my back and be my person that I can trust and count on to love me. I never feel alone around him or like I have to be someone that I’m not. I really value the fact that he is my best friend. He knows everything about me and we have such similar hobbies and interests so we always have fun together. He is my partner and he will be there with me through all the twists and turns in life. “
Sean: “She pushes me to be a better person. She always has my back and is willing to listen, compromise, and help me make life’s best choices. I know when I have an issue, she will be there to support me and that trust is something so hard to find.”
If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does
Krissy: “Sean has many of these things so it’s hard to pick just one, but what I tease him most about is when we specifically decide that the night is a Date Night. I think he wants to make sure it’s different from just casually getting dinner/take out/etc together, but what ends up happening is that he gets really formal. He’ll talk about himself, his job, and our relationship like it’s the second or third date and not 5 years into knowing each other. It’s also the only time he talks with his hands? I just start imitating his hand gestures until he catches on and laughs and then we go back to normal.”
Sean: “Even though waking up in the morning is the hardest thing Krissy can do, the four hour process is really cute and as much as I tease her about it, I find it really endearing.”
Describe the theme or décor for your wedding.
Krissy: “I love everything historical, so that’s what I really looked for when we were scoping out venues. Loose Mansion has a great history and is absolutely beautiful inside with the 1900s style. We both fell in love with it immediately and didn’t actually need very much decoration because the mansion really speaks for itself. We just have some old books and candles to go along with it – both of us are bookworms, so just a vintage look overall is what we were going for. I also wanted to tie in wildflowers instead of some neat little bouquet because I used to live near the mountains and the meadows in the summer with the wildflowers would always just blow me away. One of my favorite sights in the world. So it was a little tie in of home to me and also I just love the mish mash of bright colors.”
Sean: “Everything at the wedding is 1900s-1920s themed in the mansion so we wanted rustic, vintage, older looks. Instead of big fancy roses, we chose wildflowers. Instead of big table pieces, we chose books, and candles. We wanted something to be historic and our venue really allowed us to do it.”
