Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.
We met at Camp Raintree in Lawrence. We were assigned as co-counselors and became great friends over snack time and lots of dodge ball. After working at Raintree for a second summer, Taylor convinced me to go on a date without our 4th grade chaperones and the rest is history!
When did you know he / she was the one? Was there something he / she did?
Jill: I don’t know if there was one specific moment that made me realize he was the one. It was a combination how comfortable I was around him, how he treated me and how I always wanted to be with him. That and he was able to handle my extended family Christmas.
Taylor: There wasn’t one specific moment that I realized Jill was the one. Our relationship is really about how we became best friends and decided we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.
What is the most memorable date you’ve ever had?
Jill: Our second date out at Clinton Lake was one of the most memorable dates for me. I had never had such deep conversations on a date before and that was when I knew Taylor was going to be someone special.
Taylor: The day after Jill and I got engaged we headed to Boulder, Colorado, to run in a 10K. After spending a couple days in Boulder, Jill surprised me with a trip to Vail, Colorado. I had frequented Vail every summer for soccer from the time I was 9 years old, thus it held a very special place in my heart. I took her on a stroll down my childhood memories after eating at the infamous pizza joint that my dad and I used to always go to.
Tell us about the proposal (did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Nervous, excited, freaking out?)
Jill: I knew that Taylor was going to propose at some point during the summer. I just didn’t know when. It was the weekend right after we got out of school and we had planned to go to Lawrence for his “grandma’s birthday.” We spent the day together in Lawrence and then we went out to one of Taylor’s favorite spots at Clinton Lake. He proposed on the top of the hill and had our friend, Mike, there taking pictures. Little did I know that his “grandma’s birthday” was an engagement party that he had planned. All of our family and friends were there waiting for us. It was pretty amazing!
Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.
Jill: I love how passionate Taylor is in everything he does. He always puts his heart into what he cares about: family, friends, KU basketball, teaching, cooking…
Taylor: Jill is the most selfless person I have ever met. She consistently puts others needs before her own. She cares about everyone she encounters and always manages to bring joy to any type of day.
If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does
Jill: Taylor always drives barefoot and can’t seem to remember to shut left cabinet doors.
Taylor: Jill’s dinner habits are pretty quirky. She tends to eat snacks for dinners quite often. Cheese, Crackers, and ice cream is a classic combo.
Describe the theme or décor for your wedding.
We wouldn’t say there is a particular theme. We really care about our friends and family having a great time because they are who shaped us into the couple that we are.
